KERN RIVER OUTFITTERS’ PUB & GRUB and WINE TASTING TRIPS HIGHLIGHT LOCAL BREWERY and CENTRAL COAST VINEYARDS

Kern River Outfitters, Southern California’s premier whitewater rafting outfitter, is running two specialty trips this year that feature trendy beverage themes. The first, scheduled for July 9-10, is a Pub & Grub trip featuring micro brews from locally based Kern River Brewery, and the second, set for July 16-17, will highlight wines from an array of Central California vineyards.

CALIFORNIA WATER REPORT PAINTS A BRIGHT
PICTURE FOR SUMMER RAFTING ENTHUSIASTS

Dark clouds and cold temperatures might keep you indoors for now, but if you are a whitewater rafting enthusiast, these weather features should “brighten” your outlook for summer. Whitewater rafting outfitters are dependent on winter storms to produce enough snow and water to allow them to run trips all summer. Currrent data from the Department of Water Resources shows the Kern snowpack to be much improved from earlier forecasts.

WHITEWATER SCHOOLS PROVIDE TRAINING
FOR STUDENTS SEEKING SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
In April when snow begins to melt, Kern River Outfitters’ general manager Keith “Luther” Stephens will be on the Kern River surrounded by two dozen guide-hopefuls. The young men and women will be participating in the 2009 Kern River Outfitters Whitewater School – an annual six-day course designed to teach the basics of being a whitewater rafting guide and a sort of “on-the-water interview,” as Stephens put it.
