Two Day Kern River Safari

An Active and Comfortable Southern California Rafting trip.

A UNIQUE KERN RIVER RAFTING ADVENTURE

Whitewater & Safari-inspired Camping – the Two Day Kern River Safari

Our Two-Day Kern rafting trips cover about 20 miles of some of the country’s best summer whitewater. With a beautiful high desert canyon, high adventure rapids, and an ultra-comfortable ‘safari style’ backcountry camp (think glamping), our two-day Kern river trip is considered the best and most unique overnight rafting trip in Southern California. It is based on our award-winning Upper Klamath Safari Camp and we are so excited to bring the concept to the Kern and the closest rafting to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Diego.

2024 Kern River Rafting

Two Days on the Kern River: A quick, active, & comfortable wild river escape.

River Rafting Itinerary

On day one we meet at 9:30AM at our Rafting Center. The day consists of progressive whitewater, meaning the rapids get more and more challenging as you travel downstream. After lunch, we tackle back-to-back rapids before floating up to our comfortable riverside Kern River Safari Camp, where we spend a comfortable night under the stars. Day 2 starts with breakfast and time for a second cup of coffee before we push off from camp and get back on the water. After a short portage around a Class VI rapid, we have a mix of exciting Class III and IV rapids. We’ll do a lunch stop before getting into the Big Five section of the Lower Kern, which ends the trip with terrific rapids. We then drive back to our Rafting Center, concluding the trip, and arriving between 3:30 and 5 PM.

Two Day Kern Safari FAQs

Our private Kern Safari camp is located alongside the river, tucked between massive granite boulders, and shaded with Cottonwood and Willow. Accommodations are shaded, walk-in tents with comfortable cots, bedding, and a private deck. There is a shaded eating area and lounge area with views of the river, hammocks and beach games. In the late afternoon appetizers will be served followed by one of our trademark meals. The evening can be spent at the lounge, around the table, or by the river. The day is capped off by a night of sleep filled only with the sounds of the river and the breeze through the trees. After breakfast on day two we float out of camp and into the lower section of the canyon. It is a truly unique and comfortable place.

Depending on group size and which rafts we use, we fit between 4 and 6 guests in each paddle raft. As often as we can, we try to keep groups together in the same raft too.

The minimum age is 12 years old.

Of course – we are known for our meals and can accommodate most dietary requests.
