2023 Kern River Rafting

This trip is Class II and III through the “Jungle Run” section of the Lower Kern river.

River Rafting Itinerary

Class III Half Day FAQs

With the historic rainfall we have experienced in California this season, we are implementing our Big Water Protocol, which is designed to help us prioritize safety when we experience periods of exceptionally high water. Under normal conditions, this trip starts at the Granite Put-In launch and ends at Miracle. With exceptionally high water, some rapids in this section increase to Class IV+ so we adjust this trip to a different section on the Kern River that is appropriate for 12 year olds. This section is from Powerhouse to Kernville on the Upper Kern. To ensure a similar length trip, we will run multiple laps on this section. While the Lower Kern river is dam controlled, we receive no schedule on water releases, so we are unsure if and when these exceptional high flows will come into play.

There are six rapids on this trip and plenty of unnamed Class II. The named rapids are It’s a Dilly, Oscar’s Nightmare, Suck Nozzle, S-Turn, Hobo, and Miracle.

Depending on group size and which rafts we use, we fit between 4 and 6 guests in each paddle raft. As often as we can, we try to keep groups together in the same raft too.

The minimum age policy is firm. During our Big Water Protocol, this trip has a minimum age of 12, and then it goes down to 8 years old.
