The Class IV Premium is one of the best summer whitewater trips on the West Coast. It is a continuous down river trip through a beautiful canyon with only limited road access. And… it packs every single Class IV rapid on the Lower Kern into a single day. The day is split by a short ‘portage’ where we walk the rafts around a spectacular but unrunnable cataract. The portage and the beauty and power of the location add to the overall quality, excitement, and authenticity of this run. If you only have one day, this is the trip to do.

The Class IV Premium is a busy day with plenty of Class IV rapids in the morning and afternoon of the trip. The day will be split with a quick portage around a Class VI rapid and then a hearty lunch, right after it’s back to the whitewater.

Class IV Premium FAQs

This trip returns to our Rafting Center between 4:30PM – 5:30PM

There are 21 named rapids on this trip and plenty of unnamed rapids too. Of those 21, there are 3 Class IIs, 11 Class IIIs, and 7 Class IV rapids.

Depending on group size and which rafts we use, we fit between 4 and 6 guests in each paddle raft. As often as we can, we try to keep groups together in the same raft too.

The minimum age for this trip is 12.

While the trip starts and ends at our Rafting Center, the raft put-in is at Miracle and the takeout is at Democrat.
