Alta Sierra Ski Resort is Set to Open

Our local ski resort, Alta Sierra, is ready to open their lifts for the first time since the drought took effect. The latest storms have dumped quite a bit of snow, and their opening day is set for Friday, January 15.

Alta Sierra is located in the Greenhorn Mountains, which is just 22 minutes from our Rafting Center, up Highway 155. Situated at 7,000 feet, the resort features two chairs, a terrain park, 11 trails, and a tube park. Full day, adult lift tickets cost $40. More information can be found on their website.

For rafting, snowpack is our greatest indicator of what our season will look like. A good snowpack translates into a good rafting season. We’re excited for what our current Southern California snowpack resembles, and are looking forward to seeing what the incoming storms will do. The fact that our local resort is open for the first time in three years is a great signal for our Kern whitewater.
